Robert Bright moved his family to Taos, New Mexico from New York in the 1930s. There he began his writing career and published his first novel, The Life and Death of Little Joe.

"Robert Bright, an author and illustrator of children's books, died of cancer on Nov. 21 at his home in San Francisco. He was 87 years old. Mr. Bright's first children's book, Georgie, was published in 1944. Its title character was a friendly little ghost. Twelve more Georgie books followed for Doubleday & Company, including Georgie's Halloween, Georgie to the Rescue and Georgie and the Robber. Mr. Bright, born in Sandwich, Mass., was also a teacher, reporter and fiction writer. Among his adult novels were The Intruders and The Olivers. He is survived by a son, Robert Douglas Bright Jr., of Cardiff, Calif., and a daughter, Beatrice Ruffin, of San Francisco. His wife, the former Katherine Bailey, died in 1973."
